No AI quiz helper extension is free without limits. The most generous free tiers we found in October 2026 are Apex Vision AI (30 requests, then a refill every 12 hours) and FastSolve (10 solves per day). QuizAce gives 5 questions per day, QuizLLM gives 5 per week, and several big names say they have a free version without publishing the limit. None of the tiers below asks for a card to start, except where we say so.

What "free" means in this category

You will see four different models behind the word "free":

• A renewing daily allowance (FastSolve, QuizAce, Quiz Solver AI). A fixed number of questions that comes back every day. It is the easiest to plan around: you know on Sunday night how many you will have on Monday.
• A refill on a timer (Apex Vision AI). A starting balance that refills every 12 hours. Good for students who study in two sessions a day.
• A weekly allowance (QuizLLM). Five queries that reset on Monday. Enough to try the product, not to use it through a week of classes.
• A trial or an unspecified "limited" version (AnswerAI, Quizard AI, SolvelyAI, Canvas Quiz Solver). The extension works for free, but the limits are only visible once you use it. Trials in particular can switch to paid billing when they end if you gave a card, so read the terms before you start one.

A model is not better or worse on its own. What matters is whether the allowance matches how you study.

How far does each free tier go in a real week?

Take a typical week for a full-time student: one 10-question practice quiz in each of three courses, plus around 15 homework questions you want explained. That is 45 questions.

The honest takeaway: if you need the most free usage, FastSolve and Apex Vision AI are ahead of QuizAce. QuizAce's 5 per day suits checking your work on a practice quiz or getting a few hard homework questions explained, not running every question of the week through it.

Which free tier suits which student

If you study across many websites, PDFs and textbook pages rather than one LMS, a screenshot-based tool with a free version (AnswerAI, Quizard AI, SolvelyAI, or Apex Vision AI) fits better, because it works anywhere you can capture the screen. If your questions are mostly inside one LMS, a page reader saves the capture step: FastSolve has the largest published daily allowance among those, and QuizAce covers Google Forms and Microsoft Forms as well as the main LMSs. If you only need a handful of hard questions explained each day, any of the daily tiers will do, and the deciding factor should be which one reads your platform correctly.

What stays behind the paywall

The allowance is only half the story. Some tools also hold back features on the free plan:

• QuizLLM keeps auto-tap for premium users; the free tier gives answer suggestions and highlights.
• Apex Vision AI offers its full feature set on every plan, but the paid tiers are themselves metered (500, 1,000 or 2,000 requests a month), so even paying users ration requests.
• Quiz Solver AI describes its free credits as covering detection, snapshots, chat and its request types; paid plans raise the monthly answer count (120, 800 or unlimited).
• FastSolve lists unlimited questions and priority support as the Pro additions.
• QuizAce describes its free plan as "5 questions per day on all platforms"; paid plans make the question count unlimited.

When a vendor does not publish its free limit, the only way to know is to install and count. Do that on a practice quiz rather than on something with a deadline.

Free tier notes, tool by tool

Apex Vision AI

The pricing page says: "Get 30 requests, then a refill every 12 hours, no credit card required." Combined with study features such as generated practice exams, flashcards and a voice tutor, this is the strongest free offer in the group. Apex Vision AI lists 8,000 users and a 4.9 rating from 2K ratings on the Chrome Web Store.

FastSolve

Ten free solves per day with no card, on eight platforms including Schoology and ALEKS. When you outgrow it, Pro is $9.99 per week. The listing is relatively new (5,000 users, 4.1 from 25 ratings), so there is less user feedback to go on.

QuizAce

Five questions per day, no card, on Canvas (Classic and New Quizzes), Blackboard Ultra and Original, Brightspace/D2L, Moodle, Google Forms and Microsoft Forms, and it reads images in questions as well as text. It is a new extension with few Chrome Web Store reviews so far, so you are relying on your own test more than on other users' feedback.

Quiz Solver AI

The free "QuizKick" plan has daily credits that reset every 24 hours and need no card, but the pricing page does not say how many. It lists 20,000 users and a 3.9 rating from 76 ratings.

QuizLLM

Five queries per week, resetting every Monday, with bonus queries for ratings, referrals and joining its Discord. It is aimed at Kahoot, Blooket and Wayground rather than LMS quizzes.

AnswerAI, Quizard AI and SolvelyAI

These three general homework tutors have the largest user bases here (100,000, 20,000 and 100,000 users respectively) and each says a free version exists. None publishes the limit. AnswerAI's FAQ says free users get "limited access" and its pricing page currently leads with a free trial; Quizard AI says it offers "limited use for free." Because they work by screenshot, their free tiers are useful well beyond quizzes.

Canvas Quiz Solver and Answerly AI

Canvas Quiz Solver is free to install with some free answers, but its site only warns that they "can run out mid-quiz" without a number. Answerly AI has no free tier: it is one $12.99 monthly plan.

Free tier or free trial: read the fine print

A free tier and a free trial look similar on a landing page, but they behave very differently once you start:

• A free tier has no end date. You get a fixed allowance that renews, and nothing happens to your account if you never upgrade. FastSolve, Apex Vision AI, Quiz Solver AI and QuizAce work this way and say no card is needed.
• A free trial unlocks the paid product for a limited time. If the trial asks for a card, it usually becomes a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel. Apex Vision AI, for example, attaches a 1-day trial to two of its paid plans, separate from its free tier. AnswerAI's pricing page currently leads with a trial offer.

Before you click a "start free" button, look for three things on the checkout screen: whether a card is requested, when the first charge happens, and how to cancel. If any of the three is missing, assume the trial will convert. Setting a calendar reminder for the day before the trial ends costs nothing and avoids an unexpected charge.

Also check what counts against the allowance. Most vendors do not say whether a follow-up question in a chat uses a request, so assume it does, and ask follow-ups in fewer, more complete messages.

How to get the most out of a free tier

1. Spend it on the questions you do not understand. A free allowance runs out fastest when it is used on questions you could answer yourself. Work the quiz first, then use the tool on the ones you got wrong or guessed.

3. Test your platform early. A free tier is the cheapest way to find out whether a tool reads your LMS properly. Canvas New Quizzes and Blackboard Ultra are the two places where page readers most often differ (see Classic vs New Quizzes).
4. Check permissions before installing. Free or not, an extension that reads your quiz pages can read those pages. Google explains the permission warnings on its Chrome Web Store help page.
5. Know the rules for each assessment. A free tier does not change what your instructor allows. Use AI help where it is permitted: practice quizzes, review and homework that allows outside help.
