Best Canvas Quiz Solver (CanvasQuiz) Alternatives (2026)
CanvasQuiz (canvasquiz.com) sells Canvas Quiz Solver, a Chrome extension that adds a button to each question in Canvas Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes and shows an AI answer on the page. It is Canvas-only and costs $7.99 a week, $14.99 a month or $79.99 a year. The best alternative depends on what you need that it does not offer: QuizAce or FastSolve if your courses also use Blackboard, Brightspace or Moodle, Apex Vision AI for the largest published free tier and study tools, and AnswerAI or Quizard AI if you want a tutor that works on any website.

Disclosure: QuizAce publishes this blog and is one of the alternatives. Where Canvas Quiz Solver is ahead (its yearly price, for example), we say so. Every figure below comes from the Chrome Web Store or the vendor's own page on October 12, 2026.
What Canvas Quiz Solver is
The product is listed in the Chrome Web Store as Canvas Quiz Solver, published by the owner of canvasquiz.com, which is why many students search for it as "canvasquiz". On October 12, 2026 the listing showed 2,000 users, a 4.3 rating from 96 ratings, and version 3.8.16, updated October 10, 2026.
How it works, according to its own listing and website:
- In-page, one click per question. On a Canvas quiz page, a solve button appears next to each question, and the answer is shown in place. There is no side panel or screenshot step.
- Both Canvas quiz engines. It names Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes. New Quizzes loads inside an embedded frame, which some extensions cannot read, so this matters (see our Classic vs New Quizzes explainer).
- Wide question-type coverage. The listing names multiple choice, true/false, multiple answers, fill in the blank, multiple dropdowns, matching, ordering, categorization, numeric and formula, essay and short answer, and image questions such as diagrams and charts.
- Minimal permissions. The listing says it requests storage permission only and that questions are not stored. Its privacy disclosure says the developer will not collect or use your data.
- Flat, unlimited pricing. Weekly $7.99, monthly $14.99, yearly $79.99 (about $6.67 a month), with no usage caps on paid plans, a 7-day money-back guarantee requested by email, and access until the end of the paid period after cancelling.
Those are genuine strengths. In particular, $79.99 is the cheapest unlimited yearly plan we found among quiz-reading extensions, and a storage-only permission request is narrower than many tools in this category.
One thing to know about how it is sold: Canvas Quiz Solver is marketed for use on graded Canvas quizzes and exams, and much of its website content is organized around questions about what Canvas and proctoring tools can detect. We do not repeat or link those claims. If you want the factual version of that topic, our guide to what professors see in Canvas quiz logs is based on Instructure's documentation.
Why students look for an alternative
Your courses are not all on Canvas
This is the most common reason. The extension is built for Canvas and nothing else, by design. Many students have one course on Canvas, another on a publisher platform, and a lab section that uses Google Forms or Microsoft Forms. Others transfer, or take a summer class at a school on Blackboard, Brightspace or Moodle. Paying for a tool that covers one of those platforms and a second tool for the rest costs more than one broader tool.
You want to know the free allowance before installing
The website says installing is free and that some free answers are included, but it does not state how many, only that they can run out partway through a quiz. Several alternatives publish an exact daily or per-12-hour allowance.
You want explanations and study features
Canvas Quiz Solver is built to show an answer quickly. If your goal is to understand why an answer is right before a midterm, you may prefer a tool that leads with the explanation, lets you ask follow-up questions, or builds flashcards and practice tests from your material.
You are uncomfortable with how it is positioned
Some students simply prefer a tool positioned for practice, homework and review rather than for graded assessments. That is a reasonable preference, and it also lines up with how most course policies treat AI help.
Price on short billing periods
On a yearly plan it is the cheapest. On a weekly or monthly plan it is not: QuizAce is $1 a week and $2 a month less, and metered plans such as Apex Vision AI's $7.99 Starter are cheaper for light users.

Which alternative fits which reason
Canvas plus other LMSs: QuizAce or FastSolve
Both read the question directly on the page the way Canvas Quiz Solver does, so the workflow stays the same; the difference is where else they work.
QuizAce is built and tested for Canvas (Classic + New Quizzes), Blackboard (Ultra + Original), Brightspace, Moodle, Google Forms and Microsoft Forms. On other websites it falls back to a general page reader that has not been tested on that platform, and interactive formats (graphs, drag-and-drop, embedded tools, math input editors) are out of scope. It reads images in questions and explains each answer rather than only showing it. Its weekly and monthly plans are cheaper than Canvas Quiz Solver's; its yearly plan is $10 more. The weak point is track record: it is a new listing with only a few reviews.
FastSolve covers the widest list of platforms, and is the only tool here that names Schoology, ALEKS, Knewton Alta and Learnosity. If any of your courses use those, it is the natural pick. It is also the only one with a semester plan ($49 for four months). It does not say whether it reads images, so test that if your course has diagrams.
Staying on Canvas only: Answerly AI
If Canvas really is your only platform and you are leaving for another reason, Answerly AI is the other Canvas specialist. It reads Classic and New Quizzes, adds a screenshot tool for other sites, and has a single plan at $12.99 a month capped at 150 uses a day. There is no free tier, so you pay to try it, and its listing, like Canvas Quiz Solver's, advertises features aimed at hiding activity from the LMS, which we do not credit. If positioning was your reason for leaving, this is not the switch.
Most free usage and study tools: Apex Vision AI
Apex Vision AI publishes the most generous free tier we found: 30 requests plus a refill every 12 hours, no card. It works through an in-page panel on any website, including Canvas, and reads diagrams and graphs. It is also the only alternative here that generates practice exams and flashcards from your own course material and offers a voice tutor. Paid plans are metered ($7.99 for 500 requests a month, $14.99 for 1,000, $19.99 for 2,000). For a student who wants to prepare for Canvas quizzes rather than just get through them, it is the strongest fit.
A tutor that works anywhere: AnswerAI or Quizard AI
Screenshot tutors do not care which LMS you use, because they read a picture of the question. That makes them slower on long quizzes than an in-page reader, but more flexible: they work on PDFs, publisher e-books, discussion posts and Canvas pages alike. AnswerAI has the most public reviews of any extension in this group (12.4K ratings). Quizard AI adds iPhone and Android apps on the same subscription, useful if part of your work is on paper. Neither publishes a clear price list on its website; our Quizard AI alternatives and AnswerAI alternatives guides go into their pricing in detail.
Lowest total cost
If every course you take is on Canvas and you will use a tool all year, staying on Canvas Quiz Solver's $79.99 yearly plan is the cheapest unlimited option, $10 below QuizAce and $19 below FastSolve. For a single week, QuizAce ($6.99) is cheapest. For under 500 questions a month, Apex Vision AI's $7.99 plan costs less than any unlimited monthly plan. The per-answer math for every plan is in our pricing comparison.
What changes, and what does not, when you switch tools
Switching extensions changes the workflow and the price. It does not change what Canvas itself records or what your instructor allows. A few facts that apply whichever tool you use:
| Topic | What is true on Canvas |
|---|---|
| Quiz activity records | In Classic Quizzes, instructors can open a quiz log for each attempt with timestamped events. New Quizzes has its own Moderate page with attempt details. |
| Which engine your quiz uses | Classic and New Quizzes look and behave differently; an extension that reads one may not read the other. Check before you pay. |
| Whether AI help is allowed | Set by your instructor for each assessment and by your school's academic-integrity policy, not by the extension. |
| Proctored exams | Exams run in a lockdown browser or with a proctoring service are a separate case. QuizAce does not run inside LockDown Browser and should not be used on proctored exams. |

Before you switch
- Use your refund window if it applies. Canvas Quiz Solver offers a 7-day money-back guarantee on the first payment, requested by email. After that, cancelling from the extension's "Manage subscription" option keeps access until the end of the paid period.
- Compare permissions. Canvas Quiz Solver's storage-only request is a high bar. Check what each alternative asks for at install; Google's permissions help page explains what each warning means.
- Test on a practice quiz. Every alternative except Answerly AI has a free tier. Try it on an ungraded practice quiz in both Classic and New Quizzes if your school uses both.
- Use explanations, not just answers. Reading why an answer is right is what makes these tools useful before an exam. Our guide on studying with AI tools has a simple routine for it.
