Best StudyX Alternatives for Students (2026)
The best StudyX alternative depends on which part of StudyX you actually use. For a free general tutor, ChatGPT study mode does most of what StudyX's homework helper does. For a browser extension with a large user base, AnswerAI is the obvious comparison, and Apex Vision AI has the most generous published free tier. For flashcards, Quizlet is the specialist. For guided learning in math and science, Khanmigo costs $4 a month. And if your practice quizzes live in Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace or Moodle, QuizAce reads them on the page. Details, prices and store figures for each are below.

What StudyX is in 2026
StudyX is best known as a homework-answer app, but it has grown into what its website now calls an "all-in-one AI study platform." As of October 12, 2026, it bundles five groups of features:
- Homework help. Step-by-step solutions from a photo, pasted text or an uploaded file, across more than 50 subjects, with follow-up questions.
- Notes. Summaries and notes generated from PDFs, slides, YouTube videos and recorded lectures, plus live lecture transcription.
- Flashcards and quizzes. Generated from your own material, with spaced repetition and multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer practice.
- Writing tools. An AI-content detector, a plagiarism checker, a paraphraser and an "AI humanizer."
- Exam and certification prep. Practice for standardized tests (AP, IB, SAT/ACT, GRE/GMAT) and some professional certifications.
It is available on the web, as an iPhone, iPad and Mac app, and as a Chrome extension. The US App Store listing (seller: StudyX Inc.) showed a 4.7 rating from 959 ratings on the day we checked.
What StudyX does well
The breadth is the real strength. If you want one app that turns a lecture recording into notes, the notes into flashcards and the flashcards into a practice quiz, StudyX does that without moving files between tools. The App Store rating is solid, the homework solver accepts photos (useful for handwritten work and printed worksheets), and the free tier is real: in a reply to an App Store review, the developer says registered users get 5 questions and 5 similar answers per day for free. StudyX also publishes an Honor Code that tells users not to use the service on tests, quizzes or homework where the instructor has barred outside help, and says StudyX may suspend accounts that do. That is a clearer statement than many tools in this category make.
Why students look for a StudyX alternative
Searching for alternatives usually comes from one of four frictions. None of them means StudyX is a bad product; they mean it may not match how you study.
1. The pricing is hard to read
On the web, StudyX's plan page presents three tiers, Plus, Pro and Max, with 3x, 6x and 20x higher usage limits than the free plan, a credit system (30 refresh credits a day on Plus) and a 3-day trial on yearly plans. When we loaded it, the page described yearly savings but did not display the actual prices, which appear to load later in the browser. The App Store listing is clearer about cost but has many overlapping products: a $6.99 weekly plan, $12.99 monthly plans under several names (Plan, Plus, Ultra), $14.99 Pro and Ultra monthly plans, a $35.99 six-month Plus plan and a $77.99 yearly Plus plan. If you want a single price you can compare at a glance, that is a reason to look elsewhere.
2. The Chrome extension is a small part of the product
StudyX is primarily an app and a website. Its Chrome extension, "StudyX: AI Homework Helper," showed 1,000 users, a 5.0 rating from 4 ratings, and a last update on March 25, 2025 when we checked. It works by cropping or highlighting a question on the page. If you mostly study in a browser, a tool whose extension is its main product will probably get more attention.
3. You only need one feature
An all-in-one subscription makes sense if you use most of it. If you only make flashcards, a flashcard specialist is cheaper and more polished. If you only need a math explanation now and then, a free AI tutor covers it.
4. You are wary of the writing tools
Some students and instructors are uncomfortable with study apps that sell an "AI humanizer" next to an AI detector. That is a judgment call rather than a fact about quality, but if your school's policy treats rewritten AI text as your own work only when it is disclosed, you may prefer a tool that is focused on explanation.

Checked on Oct 12, 2026. Chrome figures are as displayed on each Chrome Web Store page (user counts are rounded down by the store). The alternatives, ranked by the reason you are switching
For a well-established browser extension: AnswerAI
If you liked StudyX's crop-a-question idea but want an extension with a much larger user base, AnswerAI is the closest match. Its Chrome Web Store listing showed 100,000 users and a 4.9 rating from 12.4K ratings. It works on any website through a screenshot or by highlighting text, so it handles PDFs, textbook sites and LMS pages alike. The downside is the same one StudyX has: we could not find a clear public price, and the free allowance is described as limited without a number. Our AnswerAI alternatives post covers it in more depth.
For a bigger free allowance: Apex Vision AI
StudyX's free tier is about 5 questions a day. Apex Vision AI publishes 30 free requests that refill every 12 hours, which is the most generous published free allowance among the extensions we track, and its paid plan starts at $7.99 a month for 500 requests (Apex Vision AI pricing). Its Chrome listing showed 8,000 users and a 4.9 rating from 2K ratings. It reads diagrams and graphs, so it suits science courses. It does not include StudyX's notes, flashcards or lecture transcription.
For free, all-purpose tutoring: ChatGPT study mode
Most of StudyX's homework helper, explaining a problem step by step and answering follow-ups, is now available free in general AI assistants. ChatGPT's study mode launched in July 2025 for logged-in users on Free, Plus, Pro and Team plans and is designed to walk you through a problem with questions instead of giving the answer outright (TechCrunch). You lose StudyX's organized notes-to-flashcards workflow and you have to paste or upload every problem yourself, but the price is zero. We compare the free AI tutors in more detail in our Homeworkify alternatives guide.
For flashcards only: Quizlet
If the part of StudyX you actually use is flashcards, Quizlet is the specialist. It has a free tier for creating and studying sets, a huge library of sets other students have made, and study modes beyond flip cards. Advanced features sit behind Quizlet Plus. It is not a homework solver, so pair it with a free tutor if you need explanations. See our Quizlet alternatives post if Quizlet itself does not fit.
For learning the material, not just the answer: Khanmigo
Khanmigo is Khan Academy's AI tutor. It costs $4 a month or $44 a year, is available in the US, and is designed to guide you rather than hand over the answer; adults can sign up directly and younger learners join through a parent account (Khanmigo for learners). It is the cheapest paid option in this list and pairs with Khan Academy's free exercises in math, science and computing. It does not work inside your course's LMS or on arbitrary websites.
For practice quizzes in your LMS: QuizAce
StudyX can generate quizzes from your notes, but many students already have practice quizzes and review sets assigned in their learning management system. QuizAce is a Chrome extension that reads the question on the LMS page, including images, and explains the answer, so you do not crop or paste anything. It is built and tested for Canvas (Classic and New Quizzes), Blackboard (Ultra and Original), Brightspace, Moodle, Google Forms and Microsoft Forms. On other websites it falls back to a general page reader that has not been tested on that platform, and interactive formats such as graphs, drag-and-drop, embedded tools and math input editors are out of scope. It has no notes, flashcards or writing tools, so it replaces StudyX only if LMS practice is what you use StudyX for. Its free plan matches StudyX's at 5 questions a day, and its yearly plan ($89.99) costs more than StudyX's App Store yearly Plus plan ($77.99).
How to choose in two minutes
- You use StudyX for everything (notes, cards, quizzes, homework): stay, or rebuild the stack from free parts: ChatGPT study mode for explanations, Quizlet for cards.
- You use it only to solve problems in a browser: AnswerAI for reach, Apex Vision AI for the free tier.
- You keep getting the answer but missing the concept: Khanmigo, or ChatGPT study mode.
- Your practice happens in Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace or Moodle: QuizAce.
Whichever you pick, the rules for graded work come from your instructor and your school's academic-integrity policy, and StudyX's own Honor Code makes the same point. Our guide to studying with AI tools covers how to use any of these without short-circuiting the learning.
